3rd Ward Accomplishments
Community Engagement and Service » Infrastructure & Economic Development » Parks & Educations » Legislation » Safety and Security » My work as Alderman of the Third Ward of Chicago has been centered oncommunity engagement and community-based development that is rooted in transparency and celebrates the area’s rich cultural history. Along with attending CAPS meetings and hosting numerous town hall meetings and other events, I have worked hard to create an accessible ward office that truly serves the people. This type of strong leadership has resulted in initiatives that benefit all who live, work, and play in the Third Ward by promoting public input, openness, and accountability. This has allowed me to create significant legislation that continues to bring needed resources, jobs, services and infrastructure improvements to our schools, parks, and residents. I look forward to continuing my work with you as we move ahead towards revitalizing the Third Ward. • Currently serving on the following City Council Commitees: Rules and Ethics, Health, Housing and Real Estate, Landmarks, and Transportation and Public Way • Created several Third Ward community engagement committees including: 3rd Ward Development Advisory, 3rd Ward Olympics, and 3rd Ward Volunteer Committees as well as the 3rd Ward Block Captains • Held over 11 Town Hall Meetings, resource fairs, and several seminars on multiple topics including safety, employment, development, infrastructure, & tax appeals • Initiated 4 Operation Clean events with the Chicago Police, organized 3rd Ward Clean and Green events, and a commercial corridor cleaning program • Sponsored youth and senior outings to several athletic and positive entertainment events • Organized several food, coat, and toy drives as well as a Christmas tree donation for families in need • Hosts an annual Senior Update event • Holds an Annual Back to School Fair with school supplies distribution and information about services • Secured computers and printers for the creation of computer labs at two senior buildings • Publishes a monthly Third Ward Newsetter and has created an open and efficient ward office • Worked with Third Ward residents on the establishment of several community gardens
